Important Message from our Director

Ben Sauve

Welcome home Fort McMurray!

We hope everyone so dramatically affected by the wildfires is settling into a normal lifestyle once again. As we all settle back in, we want to keep you informed that Noralta will be in a phased startup for our programs starting at the end of August 2016.

Our Figure Skating Programs, an Updated Star Skate Program, will begin August 29, 2016. Registration for Figure Skating Programs is scheduled to open online August 15th, 2016.

Our Learn-to-Skate Programs, also to be updated, will begin October 1st, 2016. Registration for Learn-to-Skate Programs, including Pre CanSkate and CanSkate is scheduled to open online September 6th, 2016.

I am also pleased to announce the theme of our December 2016 Ice Show... Beauty and the Beast! The shows are scheduled for December 9th, 10th, and 11th. Our Ice Show Chairs, Tracie Nippard and Misty Snook, have been hard at work trying to get us back on track after the disaster of the wildfires. I hope you will join me in welcoming them and thanking them for taking on this responsibility.

Noralta also has a scheduled Casino fundraiser coming in September, I hope we can all pull together to help make this very necessary fundraising event a success! Michelle Pollock is our Casino Chair, and has once again offered to coordinate the event for our volunteers, please join me in thanking Michelle.

We have also lost two of our staff this year. Leona Tompkins has moved to Kelowna, B.C. to further her WestJet career, and Sara Buchanan has left for Manitoba as her husband has accepted a new career move. We are wishing these wonderful ladies a fond farewell and luck in their adventures.

We are happy to announce that three of our full time staff... Ben Sauvé, Tania Murowchuk, and Lynn Barton remain with the club. While a decreased full time staff will entail program changes, changes designed to accommodate all our skating members at the level of programming we are known for, we know membership will be patient, supportive, and positive in helping us prepare for an exciting season!

We are planning to go ahead with our Awards Banquet as soon as possible once the season begins. I'm afraid to announce our awards were at the engravers house, which was consumed by the wildfires. Our historical plaques and trophies have been lost. In spite of this, Michelle Pollock, our Special Events Chair, is working on getting our awards banquet up and running. More information should be available in August, 2016.

Regards,

Ben Sauvé
